Carpinello
& Co.
Unique wine imports, hand-picked from Italy
Our mission is simple: get great wine from hardworking farmers into the hands of consumers that can appreciate the craft of winemaking. Carpinello & Co. works exclusively with small- to mid-sized producers that have sustainably, carefully, and passionately perfected their brands. While each vintage is selected to offer high quality for the price, close attention to detail is given with every bottle imported.
Our Producers
We typically work with smaller, family-owned vineyards. We feel it is the lower-volume and high-skill winemakers that are able to produce superb vintages. While these farms have been producing wine for decades in well-established regions, all offer their own unique twist to their traditions.
Fattoria del Teso
Montecarlo, Lucca
Situated in Montecarlo, a picturesque medieval village halfway between Lucca and Florence, Fattoria del Teso benefits from the favorable climate – 50 kilometers from both the Mediterranean Sea and the Apennine Mountains – and the suitability of the soil. Montecarlo has specialized in viticulture since the days of the ancient Romans. A Lucchese public record from 1253 even mentions the “Teso lands” by name as a superior soil for growing grapes. Fattoria del Teso is one of four commercial vineyards making Montecarlo DOC wines, an unusual designation as it requires the utilization of non-indigenous, French grapes within the blend. Today, the vineyard is run by Cristina Chiomenti and covers almost 15 hectares.
Caiano
Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena
While Castelnuovo Berardenga boasts many of Chianti's largest and most widely known vineyards, Caiano is much smaller than its peers at 7 hectares. The vineyard puts an intense emphasis on quality: the vines are grown at low densities and the grapes are hand picked. The fields of Caiano have produced grapes for many centuries, but it was only in 1999 that Caiano was given its DOCG qualification to make Chianti Classico. The vineyard’s position atop a southern-exposed hill at 300m above sea level, as well as the clay and sandstone composition of the soil, make it ideal for growing Sangiovese grapes. Caiano had never been sold in the U.S. prior to its partnership with Carpinello & Co. We are delighted to introduce it after years of commercial success in Norway.
Fattoi
Montalcino, Siena
The Fattoi family has been operating the family vineyard since 1965 when Ofelio Fattoi purchased the land. Since then, 11 hectares of the farm has been devoted to the now 40- year-old vines and the meticulous production of Sangiovese grapes. Fattoi’s Brunello di Montalcino has been produced at a low yield per hectare and aged for more than three years in oak barrels before it is bottled; the wine is finally released five years in total after harvest. Fattoi’s wines have been critically acclaimed by Raffaele Vecchione, James Suckling, and Wine Advocate.
Pomodolce
Montemarzino, Alessandria
Though it wasn't officially founded until 2005, the Da Vico family has been cultivating wine in the hills of Alessandria for generations. The vineyard is farmed according to the principles of organic viticulture, strictly excluding herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers in favor of natural products and fertilizers of animal origin. While a large selection of reds and whites are grown on this 4-hectare plot, Pomodolce is especially known for the fabled Timorasso. This grape, on the verge of extinction in the 1980s, has seen a cult-like revival over the past decade because of its unique profile: almond and honeyed notes balanced with fresh acidity.
Tenute Guardasole
Boca, Novara
Not many winemakers are as obsessed with quality as Marco Bui, who farms this 2-hectare plot with his bare hands. The wine is produced with minimum intervention and is certified organic. Only Nebbiolo and Vespolina are produced on the vineyard, as is typical of the DOC. One of just a handful of vintners producing Boca DOC wine, Marco is determined to put this appellation in Alto Piedmonte back on the map after years of land abandonment. While Alto Piedmonte is already known for its high-quality wines, Boca is earning acclaim for its well-structured profile and complex aromas. The quality is largely due to Boca's unique micro-climate: a temperate, south-facing valley with clay soils.
Le Grascete
Bolgheri, Lucca
In 2000, agronomist Paolo Valagussa decided to move from Milan to Bolgheri, where his family had purchased a small estate. There he planted the first vineyard in collaboration with the University of Milan, as part of the DOC zoning project. Today, Le Grascete is a family-owned vineyard in this distinguished region, known for being the birthplace of Super Tuscans. The 3-hectare vineyard is dedicated to the organic production of Bolgheri DOC and DOC Superiore. In 2017, the estate decided to become the only certified natural Bolgheri producer and join the VinNatur association. The vineyard follows the association's strict requirements, with no added yeasts, sulfites, or enzymes, and no chemical intervention.
